Richard and I met through DatingWaves. Both of us were sort of skeptical in our expectations of it. We both thought, “Maybe we would meet a few new people and broaden some horizons.”
We communicated via email for about a week after being introduced, then started talking on the phone and getting to know each other. We decided to meet for lunch one day. Richard says it was to confirm if I looked like my photo, and for me it was to put a face with a voice as well as to see if his smile looked just as good in person.
I guess I don’t need to say that we both approved and that day at lunch was the start of our romance. We talked on the phone every day after that and agreed to go on a real date the following Saturday. I am the youngest of five girls and we are all pretty protective of each other. So I had asked my sisters to not come over that night. That request was only granted by a few.
Needless to say, when Richard picked me up for our first date an ENTIRE hour late, he had not only kept me but my daughter, my parents, two of my sisters and some of their kids waiting. He was quite surprised and I was really embarrassed. He brought flowers for me and my daughter and I think immediately won her heart and made quite an impression on me. I think it’s safe to say we both survived the night.
After our first date we were pretty much inseparable or at least desired to be. Each new day led to another WOW experience for us and it didn’t take long for us to fall in love. From the start we were both pretty focused people, and although we didn’t expect to meet “The One” upon first match we were pretty adamant about weeding out “non-marriage” material from the very beginning.
We both saw forever after in each other's eyes. As natural progression would allow it, the formal proposal came on Mother’s day evening out on the lake watching the sunset. Just like in my dreams, down on one knee, Richard asked for my hand and my heart and I tearfully accepted. This year has been filled with prayers answered and definitely chapters taken right out of a story book.
